Peace… the state at which our bodies function most efficiently.
It is defined in the Oxford dictionary as freedom from disturbance ; tranquility.
The Bible, however, has a much broader view of Peace. The Hebrew word for peace includes ideas of totality, completeness, wholeness, harmony, security, and well-being.
Our bodies were designed to switch into a state of “Fight or Flight” to deal with emergencies, but not to stay in a state of chronic stress. When we do, our gut function, immune function, and hormone function shut down. These are areas of disease that our practitioners deal with daily at Veritas.
The goal is to stay in a state of peace, parasympathetic mode, most of the time. We believe that you cannot be fully well with only nutrition, hydration, and movement. Many improvements can be achieved, but healing and wellness seem elusive. So, how then do we do find peace? Let’s consider the ideas in the Biblical view of peace mentioned earlier.
- Totality, Completeness, Wholeness? Can we trust that God has designed our bodies to be whole and complete? To function optimally if we simply give them what they need and avoid what they don’t need?
- Harmony? Do we live in harmony with God and others without anger, resentment, and unforgiveness?
- Security and Well-Being? Do we trust in God for protection and provision or do we feel that without continual striving we may fall destitute and needy?
This is definitely an area that requires each individual to wrestle through and find truths to land on. I encourage to you to listen to Dr. Edwards teaching video below on Peace and spend time working on and learning the practice of peace.
